Our organisation
We’re a council-controlled organisation progressively taking responsibility for drinking water and wastewater services on behalf of six councils across the central North Island.
That means we’re stepping in over time to manage the pipes, treatment plants, and networks that keep water flowing safely through our communities.
Our job is simple in principle, but important in practice: to make sure people can rely on safe drinking water and that wastewater is managed properly, every day.
Our work is guided by our vision:
Te Mana o Te Wai, Te Mana o Te Tangata
Healthy Water, Healthy People
This reflects our belief that the wellbeing of water and the wellbeing of people are closely connected. When water is healthy, communities thrive.
It shapes how we make decisions, care for our assets, and look after the places and people we serve.

Who we serve
We work on behalf of six councils, bringing their water and wastewater services together into one organisation over time.
This approach allows us to:
- take a long-term, regional view of water infrastructure
- invest more effectively in upgrades and resilience
- build specialist capability in water services
- deliver more consistent, reliable services across communities.

What we do
We provide essential water services that communities depend on.
This includes:
- treating and supplying safe drinking water
- collecting and treating wastewater
- maintaining and upgrading infrastructure like pipes, pump stations, and treatment plants
- planning ahead so systems can support growing communities
- protecting public health and the environment.
Much of this work happens behind the scenes, but it’s at the heart of healthy, functioning communities.

How we’re managed
Our board of directors is responsible for our overall direction and key governance decisions. Its members bring wide experience across business, infrastructure and utilities, ensuring we’re guided by strong leadership and industry expertise.
The board is appointed by our Shareholder Representatives Forum – a group of people representing each of our shareholding councils.
Our executive leadership team manages the day‑to‑day running of the organisation.
