Our Values

Ngā Uara

At Waikato Waters, our values ground everything we do.

They reflect who we are as local people, serving our local communities and how we protect Te Mana o Te Wai and Te Mana o Te Tangata every day.

Kia Tika | Responsibility

Our mahi is more than completing tasks, it’s about owning our role and carrying the load together for a better future.

Responsibility means standing by our commitments, even when the path is challenging. It means looking after each other, protecting our wairua (energy) and creating the time and space for people to do their best mahi.

We take collective responsibility for outcomes we can be proud of, clean water, strong relationships, and thriving communities.

Kia Pono | Integrity

Integrity means acting pono (honestly) and tika (fairly) in everything we do.
We speak the truth with aroha, and we focus on what’s best for our communities.

Ego has no place here. We lead with openness, humility and compassion.
When challenges arise, we bring both honesty and solutions, because growth happens through genuine kōrero and shared accountability.

Integrity shows up when we act with courage and kindness, honouring the mana of others and ourselves.

Kia Tau | Respect

Respect is manaakitanga in action.

It shows in how we listen, how we show up, and how we value each voice, each story, each skill.

We honour the roles and experiences of our people, recognising that our strength lies in diversity and collaboration.

When challenges arise, we respond with hūmarietanga (humility), addressing issues directly, constructively, and with care.

By practising respect in our daily mahi, we build the trust that allows lasting change to take root in our teams and communities.

Te Aronga Ā-Tikanga | Our commitments

We’re here to deliver for the Waikato, with integrity, transparency and heart.
Our commitments guide every decision and partnership we make.

  • Local people, local mahi, local decisions.
  • Public ownership, our assets will never be privatised or sold overseas.
  • Partnership with Iwi and communities in everything we do.
  • Safe, sustainable water for current and future generations.
  • Accountability to our councils, our Iwi partners and our people.
  • Continuous improvement, learning, adapting and innovating together.

Te Mana o Te Wai, Te Mana o Te Tangata - Healthy Water, Healthy People. We are Waikato Waters. Local people, doing local mahi, for local communities.
